MAURITIUS VILLA

This new family home is located adjacent to a parkland, set within the Mont Choisy estate in the north of Mauritius. The home is designed as a single storey villa, oriented to optimize the relationship to the parkland, with all living spaces and bedrooms opening onto the garden.

In order to capitalize on the location adjacent to the park, the site has been leveled to be elevated above the parkland, with no boundary fence being used as a separation. The level change aids in security and privacy, but also creates the illusion of the site extending into the park.

The architectural language of the villa explores a combination of the traditional beach cottage with modernist design principles of open living spaces, a generosity of light, and a connection to the landscape.

The expression of architectural elements and details both externally and internally not only enhances the blurring of indoor and outdoor living, but also creates a purposeful backdrop onto which soft interior elements can be layered.
