The clients are prolific collectors of contemporary African art, the size of the collection being too large to display in their home. Residing on a large property enabled the addition of a free-standing garden gallery to house the collection, as well as include entertainment facilities for hosting small private functions.
The architectural style is a contemporary complement to the existing country home aesthetic. The building is located on an elevated portion of the site, oriented to optimize the views to the southwest, including spectacular Joburg sunsets.
The interior is designed as a double volume barn, the architectural elements in which are a nod to re-purposed industrial buildings.
