New Home

Completed 2015

The home is located on an elevated south facing site in an equestrian estate in Johannesburg. The site has been designed around a series of terraces which creates a series of interconnected gardens and outdoor spaces which surround the house. The house is approached from the south along meandering driveway, arriving in a car court to the rear of the home, framed by the corrugated garage shed.

The architectural design style is inspired by the re- use and conversion of barn structures, though the use of contemporary materials and details. The architectural design of the house is characterised by the classic monitor barn roof, and a contemporary addition of a flat roof pavilion which houses the patio, studio and roof garden.

The interior design maximises the south facing views, but with carefully considered north facing openings to a large courtyard garden which in turn allows light and warmth into the ground floor interior living spaces. The ground floor open plan living space is anchored by the kitchen with a large picture window into the garden, and a seamless connection to a generous patio which leads onto a pool and alfresco garden.
