A new home designed on a north facing site, in Sandhurst Johannesburg. The site originally included a house and tennis court, the house was demolished but the tennis court retained.

 

The home is designed to maximise the garden space by pushing the house to the back and side boundaries, thereby creating a generous garden space which is enhanced by the integration of the tennis court, which included removing the high fences to the court adjacent to the garden.

 

The architecture of the house is a contemporary interpretation of the simplicity of farm homesteads, characterised by simple roof forms, and generous patio spaces.

 

The ground floor spaces are configured to live out onto the patio and then out to the garden. A conservatory space is designed to connect the scullery to the kitchen, which also functions as a ‘everyday’ entrance hall for the owners when entering from the garage.
